KING5 news reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 8,370 people died in car crashes during the first quarter of 2021. This is a rise in fatalities over the same period in 2020, even though the total number of miles being driven has dropped by 13% over the same time periods.
NHTSA indicated that drivers are exhibiting more risky behavior behind the wheel including speeding, not wearing seat belts, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The takeaway from this data (which is not finalized yet) is clear – taking care to drive safely and avoid those drivers that are not doing so is at a premium right now. Please take your time and be patient and safe while driving. If you do end up in an accident, we are here for you.
